Our Research Focus

As the first ANS registry authority, we're establishing the foundational protocols for agent:// naming, similar to how early DNS pioneers built the foundation of the modern internet.

🏗️ First-Mover Infrastructure

As the pioneering ANS registry authority, we're building the foundational infrastructure that will power agent naming for the entire AI ecosystem.

🛡️ Security Models

Developing cryptographic verification methods to ensure agent name ownership and prevent squatting or impersonation attacks.

🌐 Decentralization

Exploring both centralized and decentralized approaches to agent name governance, balancing efficiency with community control.

📚 Standards Leadership

Leading the development of ANS registration standards and working with OWASP and other standards bodies to ensure open, interoperable protocols.

DRAFT - ANS-REG-001: Agent Name Registration Protocol Status: Research Phase Date: January 2025 Authors: ANS Registry Research Team

Abstract

This document proposes a registration protocol for Agent Name System (ANS) identifiers using the agent:// URI scheme. The protocol defines registration, renewal, transfer, and resolution mechanisms for AI agent naming.

Example Agent Name Structure

agent://support.company.com agent://api.payments.stripe.com agent://translate.docs.google.ai

Proposed Registration Flow

1. Domain Verification (/.well-known/agent.json) 2. Cryptographic Proof of Control 3. Registration in Distributed Ledger 4. Global Propagation to Resolvers

Research Progress

Protocol Research - Initial analysis of existing naming systems and agent requirements
Security Model Design - Cryptographic verification and anti-squatting mechanisms
OWASP Collaboration - Engaging with ANS Working Group on standards development
Prototype Development - Building proof-of-concept registration and resolution system
Community Testing - Open testing with developers and AI platform providers
Production Launch - Operational registry deployment in progress
